(ROHNERT PARK, CA) Sept. 11 – When KRCB-FM (Radio 91) decided to announce their Fall 2017 fundraising season, they brought in the heavies: a world-renowned London detective, a notorious gangster headed for the gas chamber, a film noir gumshoe, even the heiress of a script-writing dynasty that established Orson Welles as the voice of The Shadow.  


Premiering on September 15th, KRCB-FM, the NPR member station covering Santa Rosa and Northern Sonoma County, California known for programs like This American Life, All Things Considered, and Morning Edition, and a portfolio of prolific music experts like David Dye, Fiona Ritchie, and Doug Jayne, will enlist Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson as well as characters from the 1930s classic picture, One Way Passage, a modern noir-style radio detective, even the daughter of two playwrights who wrote episodes of The Shadow in 1944, to make the case that funding for public radio is the first clue to preserving and promoting culture. Tapping the radio thespian troupe, the Petaluma Radio Players, who have entertained live audiences with vintage and vintage-style modern radio theatre since they first debuted in 2015, KRCB-FM, has produced a series of 15, 30 and 60-second on-air promos that bring character to the message. Driving up the 101 to work? Don't be surprised if you hear famed detective Sherlock Holmes expertly describe everywhere (and every potential date) Doctor Watson has been frequenting for the past 12 hours as he invites supporters of KRCB-FM to embrace that "Wherever culture exists, Radio 91, is there to uncover it." Tuning in after dinner to enjoy Your Average Abalone with KRCB's Johnny Bazzano? You might at first hear 'Dan,' a notorious escapee from San Quentin, and 'Joan,' his new onboard love interest as they play a romantic game of 'name the first word that comes to your mind' while celebrating their ocean voyage and the variety of programs available to audiences of Radio 91. 


Says KRCB-FMs Radio Project Coordinator, Wendy Nicholson, "The Petaluma Radio Players are breathing new life into classic radio dramas while providing a platform for new works produced in vintage radio style. They represent everything that radio can and was intended to do. When we heard them perform in half-hour theatre, we simply had to see what they'd do in a 30-second format. I think the KRCB-FM Radio 91 audience is going to encounter what just might be the industry's shortest theatrical extravaganza."
